Frank Xavier Moosbrugger, 88, of Indianapolis departed this life at Community North Heart & Vascular Hospital Monday September 15, 2025. Frank was born January 18, 1937 in Skokie, IL the son of the late Frank J. and Helena Moosbrugger of Skokie, IL. He married the late Glendys Wagner in 1961; he was a 1959 graduate of the University of Notre Dame.
While pursuing a 37 year career as an electrical engineer and as management in the Project Office at Naval Avionics Center / Naval Air Warfare Center / Raytheon Indianapolis, and raising a family, Frank found time to make important volunteer contributions by coaching little league baseball at St. Alban’s and coaching 5-6 & 7-8 football at St. Matthew as well as supporting his wife Glendys’s many volunteer efforts such as service on the parish council as a board member of the Parent-Faculty Association and her service as Eucharistic minister as well as other fund raising endeavors. He and Glendys co-chaired the Notre Dame Club of Indianapolis Scholarship Football Raffle for 22 years and co-chaired the Scholarship Dinner for 10 years.
He and Glendys were members of St. Matthew Parish since 1965 (a short 7 years after its dedication) where their son Frank graduated – as well as from Cathedral High School in 1988 and Notre Dame in 1993.
Frank’s family loved to travel. Every year his parents and little brother would drive to a new state / National Park for a vacation – the farthest being in Mexico where he asked, “donde esta el caballo’s room” at a gas station. They would really “rough it” often, and if the boys didn’t catch any fish then dinner would be sparse. His parents went on to travel most of the globe including all but 1 continent which lead to amazing dinner conversation at our holiday visits followed by an even more incredible photo slide show from his father.
He was a loving, active father and grandfather who was involved with his son’s pursuits – coaching little league baseball, football, and BMX racing as well as attending his granddaughter’s events as he could manage. He was an avid sports fan faithfully watching his Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame men’s and women’s sports.
F.X. is survived by his loving family: son, Frank J. Moosbrugger; granddaughters Gracee Moosbrugger and Avery Snyder-Moosbrugger (and her mom Kathi); sisters-in-law, Dana Stahly & Mary Moosbrugger; brother-in-law, Robert Wagner; nephews Bobby & Jay Wagner, Jason Stahly, Mark Aker, and Peter Moosbrugger; and nieces Pam Wagner, Shelly Aker, and Katy (Moosbrugger) Maloney and all of their kids. Visitation for Frank will be from 10am – 12pm on Wednesday, September 24th at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 4100 E 56th Street 46220, followed by Mass of Christian Burial. Interment follows at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to: The Glendys Moosbrugger Endowment Fund at Cathedral High School.
