

Frederick Earl Thorman, 85, of Indianapolis passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, July 29, 2021. Fred was a father, grandfather, brother, son, friend, racquetball and tennis player, and an avid poker player. He loved spending the winters in Arizona, under the sun. He also loved attending birthday parties, milestone achievements, holidays, and celebrations with a sheet cake, homemade fudge, or donuts in hand.
He grew up on the north side of Indianapolis and attended Shortridge High School. His work ethic and desire to take care of his family led him to enlist in the Air Force at the young age of 16. He served from 1953-1961 during the Korean War. Upon returning to Indianapolis, he continued his career as an air traffic controller at the Indianapolis Airport. He attended Marian University for 3 years to further expand his skillset. He was a part of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Veterans (AMVETS), and Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings; his wife Sandra Thorman; and his children Elizabeth Thorman, Jennifer Thorman, and Kimberly Thorman. He is survived by his sister Louise Grim; children Stephanie Thorman Mellinger and John Eric Thorman; grandchildren Colby Mellinger, Michaela Mellinger, Mackenzie Carroll, and Matt Carroll; and great-grandchildren Jonas York and Jolie York.
