

George Robert Kerr, 88, son of the late George Franklin Kerr and Alice (Cox) Kerr, brother to Archie Kerr, and beloved husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023.
George grew up farming and stirring up dust with his motor scooter and other vehicles on Road 100 and other thoroughfares of the rural Indianapolis area.
He is survived by his wife Patricia (Spees) Kerr who he married on May 29, 1957, and his children Robert Kerr and Linda Kerr. A fierce lover of his family, George was a steadfast father figure to his grandsons, Jason Nelson (Vanessa), Adam Nelson (Casandra), Kyle Nelson (Kerry), and Jordan Nelson, and doted on his granddaughters Edie and Ava Wetzel. He was treasured by his great granddaughters, Harper, Hayden, and Hunter.
In his professional life, George owned North Central Auto Service from 1957-1968, and spent the remainder of his career in industrial sales. He served in Germany, post-Korean War, as a proud member in the Armored Division of the US Army. George also acted as the Post Commander of American Legion – Post #3 Broad Ripple.
He served his community as Volunteer Fire Chief of Washington Township as well as Deputy Sheriff. George volunteered for many years for the North Central High School Living History Program. He also took great pride in his membership in the Keystone Lodge No. 251, Scottish Rite, and the Union Chapel Methodist Church.
George loved camping, fishing, hunting, and spending time at his property in Southern Indiana. He will be remembered for his loyalty, work ethic, bravery, empathy, and humor. George Robert Kerr crafted an incredible legacy and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Visitation for George will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2023, from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Union Chapel United Methodist Church, 2720 E 86th St, Indianapolis, IN 46240. Funeral Service begins at 1:00pm, with graveside committal at Union Chapel Cemetery immediately following funeral (8301 Haverstick Rd., Indianapolis, 46240).
Friends and family are welcome to join us for refreshments following the ceremonies at 12626 Meeting House Rd., Carmel, IN 46032.
