

Glenda L. Lavy of Punta Gorda, Florida died Sunday, January 21, 2024 at the age of 86 in Plainfield, Indiana. The daughter of the late Leonard and Elsie (Simmons) Hughet, she was born December 21, 1937 in Burns, Oregon. Glenda graduated from Burns High School. In 1958 Glenda married Donald L. Lavy, a member of the United States Air Force assigned to a radar site outside Burns.
Glenda worked at Westfield Insurance Companies in Indianapolis. She was a talented seamstress, making clothing for herself and two daughters. Glenda was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist and the American Sewing Guild.
Glenda and Donald travelled extensively in the lower 48 states first with their young family, later on their Harley Davidson. Glenda travelled to Alaska on the motorcycle with Don in 1993. She travelled to Alaska again in 2019 with Robyn and chose to go Class IV whitewater rafting!
Glenda, with Don, became full time Florida residents in 2000 after graduating from part-time “Snowbirds” to full time RVers. Glenda enjoyed residing at Water’s Edge RV Resort in Punta Gorda where she was part of a large, extended RV “family”. They spent winters in Florida and traveled in the summertime in their Fifth Wheel RV. They took part in the Workkamper Program in several states. In 2008 Glenda and Don celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Hawaii with their children and grandchildren.
She is survived by daughter Robyn Lavy Porter of Indianapolis; daughter Kristi Lavy of Brazil, Indiana; son Pete Lavy and wife Juanita of Plainfield, Indiana; two granddaughters Samantha and Kaitlyn; brother Gerald Hughet of Indianapolis; brother Ivan Hughet and wife Julieta of Creswell, Oregon. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Donald and sister Delores Raymond.
No arrangements for a memorial service have been made at this time. Glenda’s cremated remains will be interred at Sarasota National Cemetery alongside Donald’s cremated remains at a future date.
