Gregory Scott Taylor was born on August 6, 1949 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Harry and Johnnie V. Taylor. He attended Crispus Attucks High School, as well as Washington High School before being drafted into the United States Army and deployed to Vietnam in 1967. While in the service, he attained his General Education Diploma. In 1969, soon after returning from Vietnam, he re-enlisted in the service; this time, into the United States Navy, which he proudly served in for another three years.
“Scottie”, as he was called by everyone, dedicated his life to Christ as a young child. He and his siblings attended Christ Missionary Baptist Church with their parents. In 1984, he rededicated his life to Christ and was baptized again.
“Scottie” worked at the Richard L Roudebush VA Medical Center for nearly twenty five years, before retiring in 1996. After his retirement, he worked several busy jobs, including for the State of Indiana. In his free time, he enjoyed listening to music, watching Westerns, playing chess, traveling, spending time with family, and spending time in his beloved “man cave”. “Scottie” often said he “never met a stranger” and was loved by many.
God called “Scottie” home on the morning of October 23, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Johnnie V. Taylor, and five siblings; two sisters, Antony “Tony” St John Taylor, and Pagan “Peggy” Taylor; as well as three brothers, Darrell White, Harry Michael “Mickey” Taylor, and Phillip “Pat” Taylor. He is survived by his loving family: wife, Charlotte Taylor; two daughters, Talia Pinner (Edward) and Tania Taylor; step-son, Kevin Gomillia; eight grandchildren, Courtez Taylor-Cox, Chyna Pinner, Edward Pinner, Ethan Pinner, Nierra Gomillia, Kavonte Gomillia, Ariana Jones, and Kaitlyn Brandenburg; one great granddaughter, Bre’Naye Saxton; two sisters, Harriette Corbin (Cornelius) and Stephanie Carter; five brothers, Dennis Taylor (Sherrie), Gaines Taylor (Denise), Travis Taylor (Kim), Graylynn Taylor, and Johnny Taylor (Sabrina) all of Indianapolis; as well as his favorite cousin, Alvin Taylor. He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.
