Helen attended Crispus Attucks high school. Afterward Helen worked many years at St. Vincent hospital as a certified nursing assistant. Later, Helen decided to walk away from the work force so that she could care for her growing family whom she cherished so much.
Helen loved going to church services to worship the Lord. After services and on any given weekend Helen would cook large meals to feed relatives and friends while gossiping about family history and playing cards, which brought smiles to her face.
Helen loved her family and friends so much and always enjoyed spending time with them. Helen was always ready to take a trip. She would often ask where we are going next. A short road trip or a flight to Cali., it didn’t matter. During Helen’s last few days, she would often wake up and say, “I’m still here, why haven’t I left yet?” Helen finally took her last trip which she was so much waiting for.
Helen passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on Monday, December 29, 2025.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Aldalton Barnes Sr.; her son, Aldalton Barnes Jr.; her parents, Helen and Jessie Stevenson; her brothers, Samuel Stevenson (Sammy), Clarence Stevenson (Steve), James Stevenson (Jimmy), and Jessie Stevenson Jr.; and her sisters, Mildred Ashford and Joan Harris.
