

Henry Miller Proffitt "Hank" was born in Mt. Tabor Indiana on January 15, 1926, the son of the late Ora L. and Vernita M. (Miller) Proffitt. His wife Shirley (Weaver) Myers-Proffitt, whom he loved and cared for almost forty years, his three daughters, Laurie Ann Proffitt, Lisa Lynn Proffitt-Fox, Linda Leigh Proffitt and his son, David Charles Proffitt, granddaughters Cristina and Julia Myers, one brother John Proffitt (Evelyne), brother in law Joe Pointer and sister in law Linda Proffitt, and many loving nieces and nephews survive him.
His parents, two sisters, Margaret Richardson and Mary Pointer, two brothers, Orie and Gene Proffitt, and step-son Mark Myers preceded him in death.
His formative years were spent in Boone and Montgomery Counties. He graduated from Ladoga High School in 1944. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps in 1944 -1945. He then attended Taylor University Upland, Indiana, Indiana University Center, Indianapolis and the Chicago Theological Seminary, University of Chicago, IL. HIs first ministry call was to Salem and Lizton United Methodist Churches and he served congregations in Hamlet, DeMotte and Williamsport, Indiana. Around 1964 he changed careers and became one of the staff photographers for Purdue University. He also worked as an insurance sales person for Lutheran Brotherhood and sold heavy trucks for the Dan Young Automotive Group. He eventually retired as a federal police officer with the GSA.
Throughout the years, Hank served as a supply pastor for many different Methodist and Lutheran churches in Indiana, with a long history serving the St. Mark's Lutheran in Whitestown, IN.
The family would like everyone to remember Hank's generosity of spirit to everyone he met. He was willing to step out both physically and spiritually to serve others. His adventurous nature and eagerness to spontaneously take off on a road trip will become cherished memories for his loved ones.
