

Howard Enix Moore, born October 23, 1934, to Callonia McQuire (deceased). He is the eldest of her five children. Howard’s cherished figure, whose journey began in the quiet town of Trent, Kentucky, and later moved to Indianapolis, IN to live with his aunt Birdie Mae Davie Long, whom he adored. (deceased). He met and married the love of his life Mary Jean Vaughn in 1957 to this union 2 children were born son Howard, Jr, (deceased) and daughter Terry. He gave his life to Christ at an early age. Howard passed away at age 90 years old leaving behind a legacy of integrity, kindness, and dedication. Howard’s early years were marked by a steadfast devotion to family values and the simple joys of life.
Howard joined the United States Airforce serving during the Korean War. During his service he was a part of the Rescue and Reconnaissance Operations. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Airman 1C, he was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and a National Defense Service Medal. When he returned home, he was employed by Veterans Hospital. He retired from there after many years of service. He was known for his unwavering work ethic, gentle spirit, and ability to inspire those around him. Friends and family recall his warm laughter echoing across family gatherings, his willingness to lend a helping hand in times of need, and his deep love for his devoted wife Mary, his 2 Children Howard, Jr. and Terry, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His legacy endures in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by those who loved him most, his wife Mary Jean of the home, daughter Terry of Indianapolis, 2 sisters, Mary Cross ,Springfield ,TN, Sylvia Kilgore, Clarksville ,TN & Brother Vernon McGuire , Nashville TN., grandchildren Chelsi Bluitt & Aaron Bluitt both of Indianapolis, 5 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friend who will continue to honor his memory through acts of kindness and the pursuit of a life well-lived.. In remembering Howard Enix Moore, we celebrate a life that exemplified humility, warmth, and the enduring bonds of family. He was preceded in death by his son Howard, Jr and Brother Lois McGuire.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
A visitation for Howard will be held Tuesday, July 22, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a celebration of life at 1:00 PM.
