

James William Abram of Indianapolis was born on March 21, 1948, in Sardis, Mississippi to James Howard Abram and Liza Mae Abram (Lester) (both deceased). James passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at the age of 75. He is preceded in death by his wife, Melba J. Abram (Nelson) and his brother Curtis L. Abram (Sandra).
He is survived by three daughters, Denise Abram, Lexi Bowman (Cleveland) and Brittany Morris (Keith), two sons, Alex Abram and Anthony Abram (Crystal), two brothers, Fred A Abram (Annie - deceased) and Michael R. Abram (Annette), and two sisters, Georgia B. Pierce and Jessie M. Abram-Ballard (Eugene), his former wife, Deborah Abram, twenty grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
James proudly served as an enlisted Private Paratrooper in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1969. James displayed his hard-earned medals and awards, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and the Purple Heart.
After leaving the army, James enjoyed a 30-year career with US Steel Corporation. In his golden years, James was often very quiet but would spout out quick-witted humor when you least expected it. He enjoyed spoiling his dog, Oz who he adored dearly, binge-watching old westerns, watching movies specifically at the drive-in, eating deep-dish pizza, and spending time with his family. He showed kindness to all he met and would go to great lengths to offer assistance whenever possible.
A memorial service for James will be held Friday, June 16, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W. 38th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46208. Following the memorial service will be a graveside service with full honors at 1:00 PM at Crown Hill National Cemetery, 725 W 42nd St., Indianapolis, IN 46208.
