While Jim and I didn’t see eye to eye on Norte Dame (and other things), we shared a childhood love of the Cubs because of our dads. We also shared an affinity for chiles (anything spicy really), BBQ, golf, and sports in general. Talking with Jim was never dull. On more than one occasion I’d find myself arriving home from work wondering what happened to my 1.5 hour commute.

But I cherished my “Jim time” most when reliving old family memories with him. His almost encyclopedic recall of the lives of his relatives made him my touchstone for family history. Thanks to Jim I learned things about my departed father that I otherwise would have never known. Few times in my life I have felt as proud as when he would say, “You sound just like your dad.”

While his passing has left an empty spot in our family’s life at the moment, our family history is all the richer because of his role in it. I miss my cousin.

Love you, Jim.

Enjoyed the time I went to the 1997 Indy 500 with you and we got to see Arie get his 2nd win. You had lots of memories from your 51 races. RIP and drink some milk. 🏁🏁🏁

James was a very kind man. When I first started high school, I befriended Arie and eventually was able to hang out at his house. It just felt like James took me as his own sometimes whenever I was around him, I felt comfortable in his presence. He offered me food to bring home and whatnot...my mother never had much friends but she actually liked him because of all the good he did for me when I was around. Even though I haven't been around he always had a very special place in my heart. I'm so sorry Arie and Evan. It's nothing but love from me.

Remembering old times, and the fun we had at King's Island.
I'm glad Patti and I stopped in to see you few years ago. A life gone too soon.

I met Jim in Florida and stayed in touch through my brother. He welcomed me into his home every year for the 500 for quite a few years. We had some great times and a lot of laughs. I still have the pigstick he gave me to help master the grill! My condolences to his family and friends.

I worked with James at Brehob and he always had a smile on his face and so pleasant to work with. He will definitely be dearly missed. I pray that his family finds peace and comfort in this time of need.

Jim was a great friend and workmate of mine for many years. He had a wit and sense of humor that outdid most people’s; just ask him, and he’d tell you!! His infectious personality endeared many, but he could also be counted on as a confidante and true friend, as well. 😁 I will miss him terribly. 😔

God bless you, Jimmy “Dean” Gullett. I called you that because you really was cool, and a true grill master, as well!! You always said that if you could just drive a golf cart in Heaven, that you would be truly happy, and maybe a little barbecue sauce on the side too, just for good measure, of course.

Please find peace, comfort, and eternal happiness, dear friend. 👍🏎 ⛳️🥩😎

Love always,

Rob “fluffy” Taylor.
