James Arthur Leavell made his debut into this world on May 13, 1944. He was born to Arthur Leavell and Daisy (Woolfork) Broady in Clay, Kentucky. Here James attended Kentucky public schools and was an excellent student who loved to read. He graduated from Rosenwald High School. At a young age, James accepted Christ as his personal savior.
James worked in a number of industries and moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1967 where he was employed by Hoosier Fence, Chrysler Foundry, Chevrolet, and Allison Transmission where he retired after 30 years of service. It was in Indianapolis that he met the love of his life, Carol Ann Fant in 1968. They married in 1970 and to this union they were blessed with a daughter, Brigette, who was the apple of her father’s eye. James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather to four handsome young men who loved and adored him and was extremely proud. He was a father-in-law, son, brother, uncle, and friend. Family was important to James and he was a man’s man who worked hard to provide for his family.
James was the type of man who would do anything for his family. He loved to tease and make people laugh and was a great person to talk to. You could approach him about anything and you would have his undivided attention and would receive the wisdom of his knowledge in return.
In his spare time, James whittled, created storage pouches, jewelry, did crossword puzzles, and indulged in his favorite pastime of reading.
James had an easy-going manner that will be missed by all he touched and shared his wisdom, kindness and easy-going manner with.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Leavell and Daisy (Woolfork) Broady, siblings Robert Broady, Richard Broady, Marcia Dean Hall, June Cross McElroy, Regina Youngblood, mother-in-law Clarisse (Smith) DeHoniesto, sister-in-law Osedale Broady, and brothers-in-law Charles Hall, William McElroy, former brother-in-law Willard Cross, and Clarence DeHoniesto, Jr.
