Jim, was such a kind, up-lifting and generous man.  I always enjoyed being in his company.  He usually came to bridge early and everyone gathered around him to chat.  I so enjoyed being his bridge partner but we seldom discussed bridge our conversations were about golf.  I will miss him.

I am heartbroken that I cannot be there to say goodbye to Uncle Jimmy. He had the kindest heart and calmest demeanor. He and Aunt Teri really stepped up and supported the Omaha Rowens after the passing of my Father and Mother. The Rowens love golf and no doubt Uncle Jimmy and cousin Sean were the best of all. I enjoy watching their successes on the golf course. Cousins Lori and Kim exhibit the very special qualities of their Mom and Dad. And Aunt Teri has a beautiful personality….patient, smart, and loving. The Omaha Rowens are there in spirit. I will say a prayer for peace and strength. Love you all. Tommy

Jim was my first real mentor as a leader at work.  He tapped me to report directly to him and to support his National Accounts sales team in the mid-1990’s at a time when both my career and personal life were at inflection points.  

He was the first hiring manager to challenge me directly in an interview - not with a pointed or difficult question, but with feedback.  He earned instant respect.  I knew I would grow and learn from him.

Jim was sharp and such a quick thinker.  He could do math in his head faster than I could using a spreadsheet.  

As tough as he could be as a leader, he was exceedingly compassionate.  He cared about you as a person, often asking how I was doing or just sharing some simple words of wisdom that meant so much.  He was genuine.  

While Jim was whip-smart with sales figures or inventory calculations, he didn’t always pronounce words or use colloquialisms with as much precision. To this day, I chuckle at a running joke that Tony Schott and I shared during our many Quarterly Business Reviews.  Jim was great about acknowledging his team and would routinely share kudos for successful sales promotions or other wins.  Without fail, Jim would say, “So, ka-doos to Bobby Hazelett”.  Tony and I would look at each other from across the room, and silently and quizzically mouth the word “ka-doos?” to each other.  We would do our best to suppress a laugh, and then return our attention to the meeting without getting caught.    
 
I have modeled so much of my approach to leading a team after Jim.  He worked hard and he played hard with us.  I have cherished his guidance, and he has been with me in spirit for years in each business review I’ve conducted or each financial plan I’ve developed.  

No one advocated for me like Jim.  I simply would not have had this career without the time I spent under his wing.  So, “ka-doos” to you, Mr. Rowen.  You made a difference.


 Jim was a great friend, bridge partner, and golfer. 
 
We met at Old Oakland in a random pairing. I was blown away with his golf game. Jim was an accomplished golfer in his own right being the Indiana State Senior Amateur Champion in 1999. 
 
At Old Oakland  we enjoyed bridge and joined IBC in Dec 2009. We were immediately all in and became the Jimmy-John pair.  We played at our local club as well as events all over the Midwest and Florida. We had great success and great camaraderie, We attained Life Master along with Linda Cronkleton at the same Indy Tournament in 2012  After EVERY game we would shake hands, initiated by Jim, symbolizing our friendship and best efforts. That was Jim.
 
As Jim's health suffered we continued to play bridge, but his interest also turned to supporting his grandson Drew in his golfing quest. Jim attended every event the Drew played and coached him from the sidelines. He was devoted to his family.

Jim was a great putter on the golf course. I had the pleasure of playing with him in one of the big scrambles at Dye’s Walk. He could read the putts and make his share! He was a true gentleman and competitor! I will miss him!

Jim was my  son’s  Little League coach. We reconnected at the bridge center many years ago. He would  always asked about my son whenever I saw him. He was truly a gentleman and will be missed. . RIP dear Jim. 

Jim was a joy to know.  He always had a kind word or an amusing story to share.  It was a privilege to know him and to play bridge with him.  Jim will be greatly missed at the bridge center.  I am so sorry for your loss.  Mona Loft

To the Rowen Family.
Fate presented me  a gift back in 2004,  the opportunity to work for Jim Rowen.  He invited me to interview asked, me why I wanted the job, I reminded him that he asked me to apply, his retort was, "you need to tell why you would even consider taking on the toughest job you will ever have."  (Jim Logic). For the next six months he made sure his prediction came true. He was tough,  demanding and always on point. One of his most  dreaded comments while presenting  in a meeting was " go back three slides".  Oh No!
Jim set high standards and expected a commitment to excellence in our approach to business. The reward was his trust and support. No leader I ever worked for was more supportive or helpful in developing me as business person.
To have  worked for Jim was to be part of a special group. When we meet with alumni, the conversation is  always , "Any updates  about Jim?" 
I  respectfully and lovingly refer to him as "The Boss" and always will.
My wish to all of you in the family is for comfort and peace at this difficult time. May Jim's memory be a blessing. 




Jim was kind, thoughtful, considerate and funny!!!  I'm glad we had so many good years as bridge friends.  Miss  him already!
