James M. Strode

James was born March 2, 1939, at home in Indianapolis, Indiana to David B and Wilma Jean (Parrish) Strode.

James attended Arsenal Tech High School, graduated in 1957. He then enlisted in the US Air Force. He was stationed at the Lockbourne Air Force Base in Columbus, Ohio. He was honorably discharged in 1963.

James began his career in law enforcement in 1965. He earned the rank of Lieutenant in the Homicide and Robbery unit, retiring in 1987. He was elected as Constable of Lawrence Township in 1988 and served until 1992.

James had many interests; he enjoyed many rounds of golf with close friends and family. He earned his black belt in Judo 1961 and continued the sport for many years. He was an avid marksman and could be found at the gun range practicing his craft often. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends the most.

James is survived by his wife Vickie L. Barr Strode, his son James R. (Yonghui) Strode, Daughters; Laura (Tim) Combs, Kathy (Dean) Martin, Shelly (Thomas) O’Malley, Wendy (Mark) Jones. Grandchildren Nicholas A. Strode, Hannah E. (Brandon) Costello, Ashley E. Sutherland, Ryan T. Combs, Myles A. Strode, Morgan D. Strode, Madisyn (Skyler) Sombke, Mackenzie (Zach) Gentry, Carson James, Tommy O’Malley, Nicholas (Bailee Hayse) Martin, Drew (Amanda Mantock) Martin. Great Grandchildren Isabella, Natalie, Jackson, Carter, Evan, Wesley, and Eli.

He is preceded in death and reunited in Heaven with his son David Allen Strode, father David B. Strode, mother Wilma Jean, and sister Dorothy Duke.

A memorial gathering for James will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a memorial service at 1:30 PM and final entombment.
