Jeff Lake lived a life shaped by creativity, curiosity, and connection. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and raised between his hometown and Tinley Park, Illinois. He attended Howe High School and later earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Herron School of Art at Indiana University, laying the foundation for a lifelong devotion to art in all its forms.
A visionary Creative Director in the trade exhibit industry, Jeff, received numerous professional accolades. It was in his personal artwork, however, where his passion and talent truly shined. His paintings captivated and delighted with a unique perspective that was bold, intelligent, and infused with soul. His pieces have been exhibited in the Indiana Museum of Art, the Hoosier Salon, and were awarded winning honors in multiple national competitions.
Jeff was also a passionate collector. From classic European masterpieces to irreverent cartoon sketches, his collection reflected not just a discerning eye but a deep reverence for storytelling and craftsmanship.
He had an extraordinary recall for history and pop culture—effortlessly quoting films, recounting obscure facts, and never missing a day of the New York Times (always in print). Jeff was also an exceptionally well-read man with a deep love of literature, always surrounded by his beloved collection of books.
A diehard sports fan, his loyalty to the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame was unwavering. Go Irish.
Jeff's love of life extended to his love of place. Whether strolling the beaches of Rosemary Beach, savoring summers on Lake Michigan, or immersing himself in the rhythms of New Orleans (especially during Jazz Fest) he found joy in travel, music, and the people who shared those experiences with him.
Charismatic, hilarious, and one of a kind, Jeff could light up a room with a story or joke. People sought him out not just for his humor, but for the wisdom and warmth that followed. A “Jeff Talk” was something you never forgot. Jeff’s signature wit, encyclopedic memory, and that unmistakable sparkle in his eye left an indelible impression on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Above all, Jeff’s heart belonged to his family. His love for his wife Tanya, and his sons Max, Andrew, and Christopher was evident in every word, every photo, every story he shared.
A private service will be held at the Gothic Chapel in Crown Hill Cemetery. In honor of Jeff, the family invites you to celebrate his memory by visiting an art museum, watching a Notre Dame football game, reading a newspaper, or playing your favorite jazz record.
