Joan F. Gray, age 93, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 10, 2022. Joan was born December 13, 1928 to the late Helen (Frank) Freyn and George Edward Freyn. She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Huff and Chester Gray and son, Gregory Huff. Joan attended Broad Ripple High School and Butler University where she developed lifelong friendships that endured well into her later years. Joan was an accomplished golfer and tennis player and an avid Butler Bulldogs basketball fan. She attended games regularly with her lifelong friend, Philip (Skip) Kappes. Joan was brilliant when it came to fashion and design. Before becoming a mother and focusing on her home, she ran Laura Martin, Inc., a dress store sourced by the latest fashions from New York. She was also a highly- decorated bridge player achieving the elite “Life Master” designation. While her personal achievements were many, Joan found her greatest joy being surrounded by family.
Joan is survived by her sons William "Bill" Huff Jr. (wife Patricia) and Mark Huff (wife Robin); grandchildren Will Huff, Marta Walsh (husband Cliff), Justin Huff (wife Sara), Adam Huff (wife Lindsey), Brisa Huff Sandoval, Mark W. Huff and many treasured great grandchildren.
Joan was an active member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. A graveside service for Joan will be held Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Crown Hill Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208.
