

God took Joan Margaret Svarczkopf back to heaven with him on Friday, April, 15, 2011. Joan was born in Indianapolis to Henry E. and Margaret M. (McCambridge) Bischoff on May 14, 1934. She was a graduate of Holy Cross Catholic School in 1948 and of St. Mary’s Academy in 1952. She is survived by her husband Anthony Stephen Svarczkopf, her son, Stephen Anthony Svarczkopf of Warminster, PA and daughter Cheryl Joan Bertovich of Getzville, N.Y., seven grandchildren Krista Collins, Jennifer Bauer, Gregory Svarczkopf, Meghan Bertovich, Kimberly Bertovich, Ethan Svarczkopf and Andrew Svarczkopf, as well as five great grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother, Thomas Bischoff of Casa Grande, AZ and her aunt, Virginia Bischoff of Indianapolis. Joan founded a school library at Mt. St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Barstow, CA and was active in Girl Scouts in Lafayette, IN and Barstow, CA as a troop leader. She was an Institutional Representative for the pastor of St. Philip Neri Church to Boy Scout Troop 447 in Linthicum, MD. In her near 30 years of scouting, she touched many lives. In Indianapolis she had enjoyed playing Euchre with the Jolly Time group at St. Lawrence Catholic Church and Bridge with some local ladies on the first Tuesday and third Friday of each month. Funeral Service will be Wednesday April 20 at 10 am at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary at 1307 North Shadeland Ave., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church at 1827 Kessler Blvd, Indianapolis. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Viewing will be on Tuesday April 19, 2011 from 3 – 8 PM at the mortuary.
