John E. “Jack” Mitchell, 90, passed away at home Wednesday, February 22, 2017. He was born in Philadelphia, January 25th 1927 to the late Phillips and Kathryn Madden Mitchell. He was a World War II US Navy veteran and was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and its funeral choir. Jack was a 1950 Indiana University Graduate and a member of the I.U. Alumni Association.
Jack is survived by his wife Marie Smith Mitchell. He is also survived by his sons; John, Greg (Deborah), Timothy, Tom (Cheryl), and Will Mitchell and his daughters, Janet (John) Inderstrodt, Mary Ann (Bernie) Holand and Marilyn (Whenrick) Rodney. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8pm Friday February 24th at St. Pius X Catholic Church and will conclude with a prayer service. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am Saturday February 25th at St. Pius with one hour of visitation prior to the Mass. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
