

John was born in Beech Grove, IN to William and Ruth Pepper (Thompson) on December 25, 1957. He went to Emmerich Manual High School and graduated in 1976. He married Julie Horoho-Pepper on October 3, 1998, in Kokomo, Indiana. He graduated from Ivy Tech with an Associate’s Degree in Military Studies. John retired as a Human Resources Specialist for the United States Department of Agriculture. He was a 17 year veteran of the Air Force and served in the Gulf War. John was awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award, Air Force Training Ribbon, Air Force Meritorious Award and the Air Force Commendation Medal. Additionally, in 1983, he earned dual honors as Chanute Air Force Base Student Training Advisor of the Year and Air Force Student Training Advisor of the Year. His expertise led to an invitation to present testimony before Congress on military pay system reforms. John was also an active and proud member of the 40&8 Military Honor Society.
John is preceded in death by his father William Pepper, his mother Ruth Thompson Pepper and his wife, Julie Horoho-Pepper.
John is survived by his children, Angela Bode (Teague) and Eric Pepper (Dustin), his brother Andy Pepper (Sally) and his two sisters, Cindy Newman (Kevin) and Nancy Luzzader (Dan) as well as his grandchildren, Maliya and Liliana.
Visitation will be from 10 – 12pm on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Little & Sons Funeral Home 4901 East Stop 11 Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46237. The service will commence at noon. Burial will follow at Orchard Hill Cemetery.
