My heart goes out to all of you--John's family and friends-- for the loss you have suffered. We've never met and I have no connection to John or his family or friends. I am a complete stranger who happened across John's story and was so touched by the wonderful human being that he was I felt compelled to offer my condolences. 

I see this young man's life full of promise and the gift of the positive contribution to society he was well on his way toward providing and my heart breaks. From what I've read, John was blessed with a wonderful and loving family and parents who raised him right with love and guidance. To them, I say Thank You for providing John with as full a life as one could wish for at 24. You are his heroes.

To the Shockleys:

I had the pleasure of being Jack's supervisor at Green BEAN Delivery for most of his time with the company. He was such a sweet, kind soul who never gave me a single issue or had a single complaint the whole time I worked with him. Things were often not ideal at work and there were times Jack had to pick up the slack of being short-staffed and he did it without missing a beat, and without a single complaint. He was responsible, intelligent, kind, and gentle. 

Words cannot express how heartbroken I was when I heard the news, anger is the first emotion I felt as I tried to grapple with how something so senseless can happen to such a good soul. My heart goes out to all of his friends and family as they try to navigate this difficult time. 

Please give Peter my condolences, I also worked with him for some time at GBD and he shared that same kind soul that Jack had. I know he must be absolutely crushed to have his brother taken from him in this way and he needs an outpouring of love and support right now as well. 

I will never forget you, Jack.

Although we never met we feel like we know you through Jack. He was one of my daughter’s best friends - they met at IU. 

We had the pleasure of hosting Jack at our NY home over the holidays a few years back. Our home was filled with the extraordinary love and energy of their group of friends. 

I’m so honored to have known Jack through Alex.  His entire being will leave a mark on all of us.

We have been remembering such fun times when the kids would all walk to CKS from Hillside along with the ding-dong-ditch shenanigans and pop up air soft BB wars to swimming "parties." Knowing Jack from Kindergarten as he grew along with the other kids into such a thoughtful young man are memories we will all treasure even more now.

I didn't know Jack, he was a co-worker and friend of my son, Marcus Mobley. My son described Jack as a" fun-loving, kind soul, who always thought of others first. He was the friend you wanted to have. " He was there for my son when he was going through a tough time in his life and for that, I will always be grateful to him. Please know that you're family will be in  our families continued prayers. May Our Lord comfort you and give you the peace to fill your hearts with the void you feel now. I don't think I have the language required to describe what I found so perfect about jack, so I'm just going to list some of the many memories that are ingrained in me forever.

I remember him making fun of the size of the pork tenderloin at the bandit yard. I remember him remarking at how many La Quinta hotels we'd pass to get to the bandit yard. I remember how fast he was. I remember being so grateful to have a funny friend that I could actually bring around my parents - most "funny" middle schools boys aren't actually funny, they're just inappropriate.  I remember the times he'd surprise you, like when he walked in on me listening to slow dancing in a burning room by john mayer and I was SURE he was going to roast me, but instead he told me how much he secretly loved that song (before kindly suggesting that I try listening to a real band like Wilco instead, which was his sister's favorite band. Quite good advice). I remember how optimistic he was when the pacers took a chance on paul george - and how right he was to be! I remember how generous he was with his time, I never felt rushed around Jack. 

One time Jack came to Ohio with me to visit my extended family and for some reason he never forgot a single person's name that he met on that trip. I'd see him at a party 10 years later and he'd, hilariously, ask me how "Brenden" (my great aunt's neighbor's daughter's nephew who we met for 5 minutes, I'm not kidding) was. That always cracked me up.

I'll always cherish the time I got to spend with him. To the Shockley family and all of his friends, you're in my heart now and forever.

I’ve spent the past couple days trying to reflect on what the past 24 years  of friendship with Jack has meant to me and I don’t think I’ll ever find all the words to describe it. My family and friends come first in life and Jack was both. From dawn till dusk we made Hillside Ave our home. The countless memories of causing the most trouble, celebrating our birthdays, learning how to play every sport together, and somehow convincing both our parents to consistently have sleepovers was everything I could’ve asked for. I always told myself that my childhood would officially come to an end when Tom Brady retired and I’ve never been more wrong in my life. There’s not a single person in the world that I would’ve wanted to share these memories with for the past 24 years. I will keep our passion for the Red Sox and resisting all trends alive with me. I wish I could’ve been your Superman last Wednesday...To the greatest best friend a kid could ever ask for I’ll love you forever Jack

There are many many great memories I shared with Jack over the last 10 years, but one of my favorites was in June of 2019. My friend Carly and I were walking on one of the streets downtown Indianapolis to go to a different bar. We randomly ran into Jack on our way - he stopped mid conversation with his friends and he picked me up and spun me around. We both were so excited to see each other. He ended up coming with us and we all enjoyed the night together.  It was pure happiness whenever I would see Jack 💓

I am heartbroken to find out that this tragedy has befallen your family. I know that the pain and immediacy of Jack’s loss will never leave you- please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Spending so many monumental years growing up together as classmates and dear friends, a piece of my heart will always be with Jack. I think back to our 8th grade graduation to when Vinny played "The Luckiest;" we all truly were the luckiest to know and love Jack.
Some of my favorite memories include playing chase with him in preschool, my huge crush on him in kindergarten when I made him a card but Mrs. Strawbridge put it back in my cubby before he could ever see it, playing outside with the hillside gang whenever I was in the neighborhood, endless AIM conversations after school giggling at his silliness and humor, him often singing "I miss you" with a (my) lisp, giving him my cellphone for a few days for fun because he didn’t have one, getting in trouble with our teachers constantly for chatting and laughing with our friends in middle school, always tagging him as superman in those tag photos for reasons neither of us knew. The list goes on and on. The thing I remember the most is he always gave me a reason to smile.  It was so easy with that contagious smile of his; I will always cherish it. He made everyone smile and laugh. 
Reconnecting briefly after so many years at the summer social last year was such a pleasant surprise, seeing eachother and other kingers all grown up, just beginning our adult lives. Gone way too soon, but comforting to know he is at home with our heavenly Father. I am grateful to have grown up knowing the Shockleys as a family of strong faith and goodwill. May God bless you all. I am sending all of my prayers to Mr. and Mrs. Shockley, Gracie, Peter, extended family and all of his closest friends.

When Jack was probably 3 or 4 years old, he went to see Santa with his family in the basement of Christ the King School.  Although he was interested, he couldn’t muster the nerve to sit on his lap, and although Santa could tell he wanted to talk, Jack never said a word.  Through the course of that morning, Santa noticed Jack, by himself, a face in the crowd, staring directly at him with a serious look on his face. First to the right of where Santa sat, then  on the left, then in the corner...you get the idea. As Santa’s time came to an end and the crowd had mostly dissipated, Jack came directly toward Santa  until he got about 5 feet away. It was just Santa and Jack at the back of the room. Santa asked if he was ready to talk.  Jack paused, and then responded, “I’ll be right back”. He ran out of the cafeteria. Santa assumed he went to get his parents. Nope, he just bailed and Santa didn’t see him again! 🎅🏽😂

My family is so saddened by your loss.  Jack and your family have been so important to the life and development  my son, Stan.  We are so blessed to have experienced Jack and the love of your family.  Even though Jack didn’t know everyone in our family...EVERYONE in our family new Jack🥰  He was always so kind and witty. I knew Jack as Adam’s roommate at IU. He was a quiet young man but always willing to help me (us) carry things in/out, find a tool or just say ‘thank you’.  We are so deeply saddened by this news of such a wonderful, kind young man who was taken too soon. I remember his smile mostly. I played tennis with Jack at Chatard and one of my favorite memories was when we hit a lob he would call it a “phat topspin lob.” He would always be in on the euchre in the team bus on the way to the matches. 
He also was a highly feared member in our 31Heaven fantasy football league and it won’t be the same anymore. 
It doesn’t feel real that you’re gone from this earthly life, but man I can’t wait to cut it up with you in Heaven buddy.
