Kathleen “Kathy” F. Nagel - Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at age 81. Kathleen was born on April 2, 1944 to Dorothea Kassenbrock Nagel and Chester H. Nagel. She is survived by her sister, Mary J. Castaldo (Rochester, NY), along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers - Chester K. Nagel and Edward D. Nagel, Sr., sister-in-law Wanda I. Nagel, brother-in-law Vincent Castaldo Jr., and nephews, David Nagel and Craig Nagel.
Kathy attended St. Mary’s Academy. She started her career as a telephone operator for Indiana Bell and worked her way up through the ranks to become an engineer for the company, which eventually became part of AT&T. She retired in 1991 after 31 years of service. Kathy was the sole caregiver for her mother until her passing in 1989. Kathy devoted countless hours and her energy helping care for other parishioners in need, driving them to appointments and assisting with their daily needs, especially a dear friend, Joe, after the passing of his wife, whom she took care of for 10 years. She was also a Eucharistic Minister providing prayer services and communion to those in nursing homes. Kathy had a love for travel especially taking pilgrimages to places that she held dear to her heart such as The Holy Land - Jerusalem, Rome/The Vatican, and Medjugorje where she visited numerous times and became very close with some of the families who lived there. God was at the center of Kathy’s life. At every opportunity she could she wanted to instill in others the love that God has for them and the mercy of His grace and forgiveness. There was no greater love for her than knowing she was a child of God.
Interpreted from the words in the poem “ Safely Home” we can just hear Kathy telling her loved ones that she is at peace now forever safely home in heaven at last, that there is perfect joy and beauty in the everlasting light, and that we still have work to do so don’t delay . . . say your prayers, go to Mass, and reconcile today, until we are called home to Him . . . for the joy she’ll have to see us all again.
