Kevin Michael Nash,
Born December 6, 1963 to Mrs. Peggy (Margaret Cavanaugh) and Mr. Jim (James) Nash, Kevin was an energetic and creative person with a ready smile, easy charm, and a twinkle in his eyes. Kevin was the fourth son/child of seven siblings … from oldest to youngest: Thomas Nash (Tom), William Nash (Bill), Robert Nash (Bob), Karen Nash Price, Mark Nash, and Mary Nash Keenan. Twelve nieces and nephews are also remaining as part of the Nash legacy. His beloved aunt and uncle, Helen and Harry Lamb, and cousins (Kathy and Tom Kozenski with sons Mitch and Phil, Mike Lamb, and Diane Lamb); everyone has a lifetime of memories with Kevin.
From his younger days following around his older brothers, to wandering the neighborhood with cousins, siblings, neighbors, and friends, and into adulthood making questionable decisions, Kevin always had his Family’s love and friendship, even during challenging times. Baseball, football (THE Green Bay Packers), hockey (the Blackhawks), politics, carpentry, lawn care, dogs … all subjects that Kevin enjoyed greatly. So MANY memories:
Riding bikes in the country and around the neighborhood (pigs, cows, chickens, goats … oh, my!)
Visiting the Warren Public Library when it was first built
Going to see our first movie at Eastgate Theater WITHOUT parents (Kevin, Karen, Mark, Mary, Mike, Diane, and Kathy … The Maltese Falcon … not necessarily an appropriate movie, but the Mothers wanted a break from all of us ;)
Running in the cornfield
Teasing the bull
Playing in the creek (fish, snakes, crawdads, leeches … ick)
Accidentally starting the field on fire (ask some of the neighbors)
Defending his cousin from teasing about her short pants ;)
Sorting and delivering newspapers (and collecting payments in rain and snow and ice)
Buying apples at Tuttle’s Orchard (and stuffing our pockets full of freebies)
Wearing a knit cap to tame the curls
Early love of tools
Helping his Dad build the basement rooms and bathroom
Navy blue leisure suit with the shark shirt
Riding around in the brown station wagon with two Moms, an Irish Grandmother and seven to ten kids … you only have to imagine and that was how it was in the back of that wagon
Getting a flat tire in said station wagon … a nice gentleman came from his house to help, but the wagon continued to purge kids and adults (two Moms, a Grandma, and six+ kids) … for some reason, Tom and Bill (and sometimes Bob) missed much of the excitement as they were the “oldest”
Driving with a new driver’s license (WOW, can we all tell you some stories there!!!) in both the station wagon and the green Maverick
Watching pigs on the loose in the Lamb’s back yard
Eating braunschweiger with Grandma Cavanaugh
Picking his own “switch” from the willow tree in Grandma’s backyard when you needed a “woopin”
Seemingly YEARS spent at the ball diamond with all of the baseball and softball games
Marrying lovely Donna
Teasing baby Ryan
Caring for more recent folks as he was able
“Most reliable handyman ever” from Laurie
Silver-toothed grin and accompanying dimples
Finding Wiggins (the Lamb’s first dog)
Eating the neighbors grapes…without permission
Trying to learn as much as possible about betting on the ponies from Uncle Bob
Walking Hogan … Kevin LOVED dogs
Holding the twins when they were babies
Climbing the downspouts to the roof … or the clothesline poles … Kevin was a little monkey
Taking care of his Dad’s lawn and landscaping … as well many of the neighbors (Mr. Swanson was a gem)
A certain charm that encouraged many to follow … resulting in some type of trouble
Donating his well-worn truck to Buckner Place to continue helping others with alcohol, drug, and homeless issues
We all loved Kevin very much and only wish for his peace and rest on this next journey of life! If you have a memory of Kevin, please share on this site. Thank you!
Memorial contributions on behalf of Kevin can be made to the Humane Society of Indianapolis, 7929 North Michigan Road, Indianapolis IN 46268 OR to Buckner’s Place, http://www.bucknersplace.org/make-a-difference/.
