

Larry was born to the deceased William and BlondeII McIntyre on July 24, 1941 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
He was affectionally called “Jake” by many of his friends.
He attended IPS school system in Grade School. He graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in 1959 and played college basketball at Tennessee State University.
Larry was a 5’11” guard and a three year starter for Crispus Attucks. The team won 3 sectional, two
regionals, two semi-state championships, one runner-up state championship. Larry averaged 16 points a game as a senior and earned a reputation as a clutch performer.
He was named to the Indiana All-Stars Team, third in the voting for Mr. Basketball. He then went on to Tennessee State, where he became an All-Conference guard for a then - NA/A POWER winning 2 NA/A championship. In 2007, Larry McIntyre, was inducted into the INDIANA BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME.
Larry worked at L.S. Ayres before going to work at Allison Gas Turbine where he retired at an early age of 51. He then came out of retirement to work at Center Township at a young age (late 60’s) retiring again 2021.
Larry loved sports of any kind. BASKETBALL WAS AT THE TOP. Any level of basketball he watched all of the games. He talked to the TV while watching the games. When doing good he clapped and hollered. When they didn’t do what he thought they should he would say that Monkey knows better.
Larry accepted Christ at an early age at New Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Williams., Larry joined St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church on 30th Street under the leadership of Pastor Emertius Curtis L. Vance whom he loved. Larry also fell in love with his present Pastor Jeffrey Brown, Jr. After service he would always say “Rev. really preached today”. Larry served on the Usher Board #2 and the Building Fund Committee as long as his health permitted.
He married his childhood sweetheart, June Delores Hill, on December 29, 1960. This December would be their 63rd Anniversary.
Larry departed this life on Sunday, December 3, 2023.
He was preceded in death by; his parents; sisters, Delores Parham, Rita McCoy; brother, Thurl McIntyre; nieces, Valeria and Vivian; nephews, Tony and Keith; and brother in-law, Ernest.
Left to cherish his memory; loving wife, June McIntyre; daughter, Vicky Gilbert; son, Larry McIntyre; grandchildren, Anthony Alexander, Tuesday Renee Ingram (Antwan), Bryce Shoemaker; great-grandchildren, Janothy, Wednesday, Alysa, A’nya, King Daelan Ingram; great- great-grandson, Prince Rico; nieces, Karen, Maria, Valeria and Beverly; nephews, Chester (Janice), Mackie; brother-in-law, Deacon Robert Hill (Roxanne); special friend since 8th grade, James “Mac” McGavok; a host of other relatives and friends.
A visitation for Larry will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, 5325 E. 30th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46218. Following the visitation will be a funeral service at 1:00 PM at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, 5325 E. 30th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46218.
