86, of Indianapolis, passed away on January 19, 2017. He was born on January 3, 1931, in Indianapolis, to the late Samuel P. and Lelia Dunnington Mayfield.
Lawrence was a graduate of Crispus Attucks High School, Class of 1949. After serving in the U.S. Army during the http://www.legacy.com/memorial-sites/korean-war/?personid=183693941&affiliateID=2839" target="_blank">Korean War, earning a http://www.legacy.com/memorial-sites/purple-heart/?personid=183693941&affiliateID=2839" target="_blank">Purple Heart, and 2 http://www.legacy.com/memorial-sites/bronze-star/?personid=183693941&affiliateID=2839" target="_blank">Bronze Stars, he worked briefly at the U.S. Postal Service in Special Delivery. He left the Postal Service to work for the State of Indiana, retiring as an accountant. He enjoyed traveling, attending Bible Study, and attending Jazz events around the city.
He is survived by his 4 children, Cherryl, Larry, Kathy, and Lamont (Jackie); 3 grandchildren, Chante, Laurane, and Lorence Mayfield; 5 great-grandchildren.
