Leona JoAnn Lyons, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on March 4, 2025, at the age of 81. Known to many as JoAnn, she was born on September 5, 1943, in Union County, Tennessee, to the late Joe and Vonnie Hutchison. From an early age, she was shaped by the values of faith, love, perseverance, and family—principles that guided her throughout her life.
After graduating high school, she married the love of her life, Jim Lyons, at the age of 18. Together, they settled in Kokomo, IN where they raised three children, teaching them the importance of hard work and family. Their home was a place of warmth, laughter, and the comfort of JoAnn’s home-cooked southern meals.
JoAnn was the heart of her family—a woman of unwavering kindness, strength, and grace. Her greatest joy in life was her family, whom she nurtured with kindness and unwavering devotion. She embraced life with a radiant spirit, warm smile, and an unforgettable laugh. She will always be remembered for her love of people and having a remarkable way of making everyone feel special.
In 2006, JoAnn lost her beloved Jim, but now, they are joyfully reunited. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her children: Keith Lyons (Marsha), Michael Lyons (Sara), and Nancy Jarial (Inder); her cherished grandchildren: Kelcie Lyons-Lewis (Grant), Kaley Lyons-Riyami (Hussein), Cash Lyons, Alex Ciano, Bella Ciano, Mina Jarial, and Mya Jarial; and her great-grandchild, Presley. Her love will also live on in the hearts of countless family members and dear friends.
A private service will be held for family at Crown Hill Cemetery to honor JoAnn’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to her heart. https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude
While we grieve her absence, we take solace in knowing she is at peace, reunited with her Lord and Savior. Her love and kindness will continue to guide us, just as she always did.
Rest peacefully, Mom. You are forever loved and missed.
