

Lloyd Herman Milliken Jr., 88, died in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 21, 2023. Lloyd was born in South Bend, Indiana at Milliken’s Camp, on Highway 2, part of the original Lincoln Highway. The second child of four and the only boy, he was the first in his family to graduate from college and then attend Law School, both at Indiana University where he met his wife Sheila Jean Cameron. They Married in 1961, making their home in Indianapolis. Lloyd and Sheila started their family of three children in1962. Lloyd's favorite activities included IU basketball, world travel, roller coasters and any family or social gathering that included singing, dancing, or costumes. River rafting, hang gliding, skydiving, and skiing until age 87 in Winter Park, Colorado were among his many adventures. He delighted in seeing his children and grandchildren perform on stage or play any sport. Lloyd joined Locke, Reynolds, Boyd, and Weissel law firm in 1960 (now Frost, Brown, and Todd) where he practiced law for the entirety of his career. His professional accomplishments include his service as President of the Defense Research Institute and the National Foundation of Judicial Excellence. Lloyd gained national attention for serving as lead Indiana counsel to GM in the successful litigation against NBC arising out of the Dateline program that misrepresented the effect of high-speed crashes on GM pickup trucks. He was inducted into the Indiana University Maurer School of Law Academy of Law Alumni Fellows and was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Frank O'Bannon. Though product liability defense was his primary career focus, he was also passionately devoted to Democrat causes and serving public education as a member of the MSD Lawrence Township School Board.
Lloyd is survived by his wife Sheila Miiliken (Cameron); sisters Judy Brand (Don), Penny Cooreman; children Maurya Kay (Howard), Lloyd (Hap) Milliken III (Joanna), Elizabeth (Libby) Milliken; grandchildren Hillary, Erika, Frances, and Jack Kay, Faolain Welch, and Cameron Milliken; step-grandchildren Rylie Cannon and Ben Ewer. He is predeceased by his parents Lloyd Herman Milliken Sr. and Doris Mae Milliken (Carroll) and sister Carroll Villegan (Joseph).
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 10 at The Indianapolis Art Center, 820 E. 67th St., Indianapolis.Visitation with family,10:00; Memorial Celebration,11:00.
