(Davis) Gordon. Louis received his elementary and secondary education in the Indianapolis
Public School System.
Louis had a strong work ethic, which started at an early age. He worked for the Polk Sanitary
Milk Company in the early 1950's. He then entered the 6th Armored Division of the Armed
Forces and served in the Korean War until 1953. Upon returning home from military service,
Louis became a lifelong member of Masonic Trinity Lodge #18. Since 1954, Louis has been
recognized by his lodge brothers as an active and faithful member for 60 plus years.
Louis married Lena P. Swift on August 17, 1963. This family unit included Louis, Lena, and
William "Billy" Gordon. Their marriage lasted 51 years until Lena preceded him in death in
2014. Louis' kind and caring demeanor was displayed daily as he cared for his wife up until her
final days. Louis enjoyed fishing and working in his yard no matter the season.
Louis' continued life of service was also seen in his secular work. He started to work for Easter
Seal Crossroads Rehabilitation Center in 1960 assisting and transporting handicapped children
and adults in the Indianapolis and surrounding areas. Louis worked at Crossroads for 43 years
as a custodian, in maintenance, and as a transportation supervisor gaining him the love and
respect of all those that came in contact with him. In time, Louis gained recognition not just for his years of service but the manner in which he served others. August 31, 1995 was officially declared "Louis Gordon Day" at Crossroads in honor of 35 years of dedicated service.
Louis Gordon passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 6, 2019. Louis leaves to cherish
his memory: one grandson, William Gordon, Jr. (Natalie) of Indianapolis, Indiana; one
granddaughter, Jacqu'ia Fraction of Rochester, NY; two great-grandchildren, Mychael
Alexandria and William Gordon III of Indianapolis, Indiana. Louis is preceded in death by his
wife, Lena Gordon; his son, William Gordon; his parents, Walter and Alma Gordon; a brother,
