
Lucille Goodman was born Lucille Walker on December 2, 1921 to loving parents Emmett Walker and Mattie Stan back. She was born in Brownsville, Tennessee and spent her early years into adulthood working as a sharecropper with her family. Lucille was the oldest of 11 children. She had five brothers; Robert, Rudolph, Jacob, Roy and Frederick. Lucille also had five sisters; Viva, Christine, Mildred, Patricia and Martha. Lucille loved her family and would go on to help them any way that she could.
On April 12, 1949 Lucille married her one true love, Herman Goodman in Corinth, Mississippi; who unfortunately preceded her in death in 1994. Together they made the decision to have a fresh start and moved their family to Indianapolis, Indiana. Lucille would go on to work at Lorton's Industrial Laundry for over 30 years. Illness forced her into an early retirement. She would then go on to establish a career as an in-home childcare provider. Lucille was always loving toward the kids in her care; many of them were family to her. The children would all call her "Grandma 'Cille". Dozens of children would come through her home over the next 30 years. Marcus Wallace and George Webb were two of those whom she considered her adopted grandchildren.
Lucille leaves to cherish her memory three daughters; Nola, Mary and Barbara of Indianapolis. Lucille had a fourth daughter, Ora Louise, who preceded her in death. Lucille also had three sons; Willie and Robert of Indianapolis and Therman of Chicago, Illinois. Lucille was also instrumental in the lives of her grandchildren; Leonard Anderson, Willie Bond Jr., Althea Bond, Freida Bond, Bertha Bond, Tina Bond, Robert A. Bond, David Bond, Ebony Bond, LaDoris Walker, Pamela Walker, Thelma Walker, Eyvette Rhim, Michelle Hawkins and Johnny Moore, Jr. Lucille also had dozens of Great grandchildren and Great-Great grandchildren. She was constantly surrounded by numerous, nieces, nephews, friends and family who loved her and will truly miss her. Her greatest joy was knowing that her loved ones were fed well and that they always had a place to rest their heads.
Lucille Goodman always had a big heart. Her kindness, loyalty and generosity will truly be missed forever. Rest well Lucille. Your job here on earth is done.
