MARY LAVON DAVIS was born to James Earl Rimmer, Sr. and Rosa Marie Rimmer on December 19, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Mary was the only girl of three siblings. Her brother Henry preceded her in death in 2009. Mary established herself early in life as a strong, independent, forceful woman who truly knew how to get what she wanted. Mary attended Indianapolis Public Schools, and went on to become a licensed practical nurse. It was in this work that Mary’s sensitivity, caring nature, and empathy blossomed. These attributes were some of her greatest gifts. She perhaps did her best work with patients in hospice. She really had a special way of comforting people during this time on life’s journey. She worked at St. Vincent’s Hospital and Hospice for the majority of her career. While enjoying an evening out with one of her best friends, Esther Sharon Mary met the man of her dreams, Willie Jene Davis, a tall, dark handsome gentleman. They married in December of 1985 and were married for 28 years until Willie’s passing in June of 2013. Mary was a wonderful cook, loved shopping for clothes and “collectibles,” never turned down a good party and really enjoyed traveling to the islands, She was a lot of fun and a very good friend to people and animals. She loved her dogs through the years and Satin, her cat. Many are sad because of her passing. She leaves special memories for her oldest brother James (June,) James-son as she called him; her half sister, Cathy Rimmer; her stepchildren: Mark (Crystal) Davis; Tracy (Marita) Davis, Sr.; Patricia (Marvin) Hunt; Michael Davis and many of nieces, nephews, cousins, step-grandchildren, and friends. All of us will miss her presence among us, but her spirit will live within our hearts forever. “To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.” ‘(Thomas Campbell)
