Mary Lee was born on October 20, 1941 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Thomas and Dorothy (Helmer) Flanary. She is preceded in death by her sister, Carol (Fred) Wright.
She is survived by her 3 children, Sean (Erin) Duffy, Tim (MaryBeth) Duffy and Erin (Tim) McNamara; 7 grandchildren, Fiona and Delaney Duffy, Catherine, Patrick, Madeline, Declan and Maureen McNamara; brother-in-law, Fred (Carol) Wright; many nieces and nephews and numerous extended family and close family friends.
Mary Lee worked at IU hospital OB/GYN clinic for many years as a scheduler and retired in 2007. She loved her job and was very good at it, earning the respect of the doctors and nurses she worked with in her department.
Mary Lee was well loved by everyone she met and had many great friends. She had an amazing sense of humor, loved practical jokes and had a gift for making people laugh. She loved to have a party, always having more than enough food. She loved great stories and writing them too. She loved to start the story with “Well…” and her creativity and passion for writing would flow from there. She directed, acted (“Igor” was her most famous role) and co-wrote plays for the Christ the King Drama Club along with many fun and touching poems, songs and stories for her grandchildren.
Family, especially her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was the best mom and Gigi ever and always had a camera ready to capture the moment.
She taught her family the importance of faith, trying your best, laughing (especially at yourself), spending time together, helping others, seeing the good in others, and always having hope, especially during challenging times.
Mary Lee will be missed by all, but we will cherish all the beautiful memories and carry her in our hearts.
