

Mary E. McGuire, 88, passed away October 17, 2014. Mary was born in Watseka, Illinois, on January 6, 1926, but lived most of her life in Indianapolis. The daughter of Orma "Irish/Mac" and Aurelia Rose "Rosie" (Arseneau) McGuire who both preceded her in death, July 29, 1976 and November 29, 1983, respectively. Her brothers, William (Josephine) '76, Thomas'98, and John (Carolyn) '01 and son Michael '04 also preceded her in her journey to the Heavenly Father. Survivors include Patrick (Brigitte) McGuire, Merrimack, NH: Maggie (Dave) Walker, Fayetteville, NC; Tim McGuire, Ft. Myers, FL; Dennis (Susan) McGuire, Indianapolis, IN; Ann (Jay) Schenck, Indianapolis, IN; Beth Grenke, St.. Martin, OH; William McGuire, Jr. and Mrs. William (Josephine) McGuire, Sr., Leland, NC and Mrs. John (Carolyn) McGuire, of Indpls. Also many nieces, nephews and "great-greats" who will continue to serve God.
She graduated from St. Francis de Sales School and St. John Academy in Indianapolis. Mary truly enjoyed the 51 years she was employed by Indiana Bell Telephone Co.: starting in 1943 at one of the last manual offices in Indianapolis- Cherry. She was active in the former operators group who meet annually since that conversion. She served in many departments in Indianapolis and in the initial Bloomington District Office in 1953. After her retirement in 1994, she returned for 2 additional years via Alternative Staffing. She was awarded the Distinguished Hoosier award in 1993 and the Sagamore of the Wabash in 1994; both presented by the Gov. Evan Bayh. She was very involved in organizations at St. Francis de Sales Parish for many years prior to its closing in 1983. She was an active member of the KPC-Ladies Court #173. Mary served on the Archdiocesan Board of Education and the Urban Educational Ministry Feasibility Study. She was currently a member of St. Theresa of the Little Flower Parish.
Crestwood Village - East provided opportunities for residence, companionship and many friendships since 2005. She enjoyed the "fun" times playing euchre, singing, bowling, writing rules and regulations for various game. She was a charter member of the Crestwood Guys and Dolls choral group. Visitation will be Monday, October 20, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, October 21, at 10:00 am in Little Flower Catholic Church.
She was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers organization and was active in their Prevent Child Abuse/Visiting Nurses/Tennis Tournament activities with the Sertoma Club. She worked at H&R Block for 6 years. Mary also served as a volunteer at Community Hospital-East since 1998 in the Hospital Pharmacy, Information System, Sleep Lab and Patient Information Groups. She was listed in the 1997 International Who's Who of Professional Management. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul or to Little Flower Parish
