Mary B. McOuat passed away peacefully in Greenwood, Indiana on February 2, 2015 at the age of 101. She was the sixth of seven children in her family born and raised on a farm outside Otwell, Indiana.
Mary liked to learn and did well in school. She moved to Indianapolis to find work during the depression. There she met and married Robert G. McOuat. After the war, they had two children, Wallace and Gordon. Mary and Bob bought a half acre lot near Southport, Indiana where they built a house in 1955. Mary lived there until 2008 when she became unable to continue there on her own.
Mary was a stay at home mother for many years but returned to work as an accountant after her children left for college. She developed a taste for travel in her later years and was happy to take several wonderful trips overseas usually as part of her church group.
She enjoyed playing cards and board games and was still learning new ones into her 80’s. She loved to cook for family and friends, and her children’s friends would often drop by in hopes of cookies or a slice of cake.
Mary is survived by her two sons, four grandchildren (Travis McOuat, Elizabeth (McOuat) Cole, Bradley McOuat and Nathan McOuat) and five great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please send a donation to the American Alzheimer Association in her memory.
