Mason Lorenzo Hogan Son of Mason Joseph Hogan and Jo Lillian Westmoreland was born on January 10, 1930 in Prospect, Tennessee. To this union four children were born: one brother Cleophas Hogan, and two sisters, Hattie Ruth Busby and Jimmie Lou Briggins, have preceded him in death. Mason loved to serve God and was a faithful member of Eastern Star Church. He attended Indianapolis Public Schools. Mason was a Sergeant Major in the army and retired in 1975. He was also an active member of the VFW Post 7119 at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis. His sons, Mason Lorenzo Dowdy and Steven Eric Hogan have also preceded him in death. Mason entered the United States Army for military service on February 24, 1948 and was continuous in active duty until June 6, 1975. Mason served in the Korean War and Vietnam War. After his military service mason was employed with Imperial Packaging. He received certification for HVAC and spent the rest of his career working as an independent contractor in hearing and sir-conditioning of which he excelled in repairs for clients and family members. Mason use his talent at Ladywood Estates where he managed the premises with his expertise in heating and air conditioning repairing by maintain the units in his care. After retiring from Lady Estates, Mason continued to assist family members and friends. Mason absolutely loved music, attending jazz festivals, sporting and traveling. Mason’s passion was organizing the Hogan Family Reunion. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends most of all. Mason really loved family gathering, cooking and barbecuing. He was known for his compassion as he always visited others whether they were ill in the hospital or just wanted a visit to laugh, joke or watch a great game. Most of all Mason loved his family and had much love for the military. Mason transitioned from this life on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at the age of 88 years old and went home to be with the Lord. Mason leaves to cherish his memory: two daughters, Deirdre Hogan-Guynn (Henry), Joni Hogan-Curtis (Benjamin). One son Ronald Hogan (Josie); 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, family members, church members and friends. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 20 at noon at Feeney-Hornak Shadeland Mortuary, with visitation from 10 am to service time. Entombment will be at Washington Park East Cemetery.
