

Mercedes Ann Ford was born on April 26, 1936 to Louise Phillips and Kenneth Smeltzer. Mercedes attended Indianapolis Public Schools. She gave her life to Christ and joined Trinity Episcopal Church. She previously worked for Howard Johnson's and the United States Post Office.She did community service for 20 years. Because of this service, she received a letter from President Bush for her dedication of service.Mercedes married Doc Tarvin. From this union there were four children: Marsha, Lydia, Vance and Betty. Doc Tarvin preceded her in death. Mercedes later married BennieFord. This marriage produced two sons, Tyrone and Glen Ford. She loved horror movies and loved her daughter Marsha's cooking and outings with her daughter Betty. Mercedes enjoyed spending time with her sons Glen and Tyrone and she was loved by many.Mercedeswas also preceded in death by husband, Bennie Ford, daughter, Lydia Louise Tarvin and son, Vance FredrickTarvin.Her survivors include, daughters, Marsha A. Johnson (James Sr.), Betty E. Tarvin, Tyrone Ford (Trev) and Glen Ford; sisters, Rosella Anderson, Linda Smeltzer and Kenny Smeltzer; brother,Michael Smeltzer; 10 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and countless nieces, nephews and other relatives.The visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, 9am - 11am, with the homegoing service at 11am in Williams & Bluitt Funeral Home, Peoples Chapel
