She was educated in the Indianapolis Public School, graduating from Crispus Attucks High School in 1948. She wanted to attend college but started a family instead. In her spare time, she would sew and knit hats and scarfs for her children.
Throughout her life Mildred had several jobs in the workforce prior to obtaining employment with L.S. Ayers department store with 30+ years, retiring in April 1990. Mildred professed her life to Christ at a very young age and was a member of Greater St. Mark Baptist Church. She also was an active member of the Order Eastern Star (OES) Chapter number 61.
Mildred was full of life, enjoying it to the fullest, she enjoyed traveling with her family, looking out at the clear blue waters of the sunny Caribbeans and seeing parts of Europe with her daughter. She enjoyed watching old shows and doing crossword puzzles. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, who would sit and gossip with her or always play pranks
on her. She never got upset, she looked forward to the gossip sessions and pranks, she would just laugh and knew to be aware of them and their shenanigans.
Mildred always smiled and laughed with everyone, saying whatever she felt like saying, no filter for her. It was never a dull moment with her. She was everyone’s mom, and grandma. Mildred was a very strong woman even to the end. She will be remembered for all her love and positivity to everyone whom she came into contact with. To know her is to truly love her.
