
He was born on February 26, 1934 in Brazil, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and
Wilma Cox.
His education consisted of Brazil, IN schools, Franklin College, and
Butler University. He received the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Divinity from Franklin College in 2001.
He was the Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministries in
the Logansport Baptist Temple (1957-1959), Indianapolis Garfield Park Baptist Church (1959-1964), Lafayette First Baptist Church (1964-1967), Bloomington First
Baptist Church (1967-1972), and the Indianapolis First Baptist Church
(1972-1976). He then became the Director of Educational Ministries
for the American Baptist Churches of Indiana and Kentucky
(1976 â€" January 2001). He was the first recipient of the Kenneth
L. Cober Award for Regional Christian Education in 1993. This
award was presented by the American Baptist Churches of USA.
A room in the new Carroll Youth Center at the National
Conference Center in Green Lake, Wisconsin, was named for Ced in honor of his contribution to the ministry with youth in the denomination.
He served as a consultant for the Indianapolis Center for
Congregations. He was the American Baptist representative to the Network
of Higher Education Ministries Board (INHEM).
He served on the planning team for numerous National
Gatherings of American Baptist Youth.
He was appreciated for his creative ideas, his caring attitude, being a good listener, and his leadership skills.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Jane, of fifty-five years; a
daughter, Angie; a son-in-law, Michael Pogue; a son, Brian;
and six grandchildren .
There will be a private visitation time for the family Saturday, May 2, 2015 beginning
at 9:00 AM at the Indianapolis First Baptist Church at 86th
Street and College Avenue. Open visitation will follow from 9:30 AM
to l0:45 AM. The service will be held at ll:00 AM in
the sanctuary. Entombment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
