
Larry Justin Young, affectionately known as “Tootie”, was born July 29, 1949 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Robert B. Young and Barbara N. Edwards Young. Tootie was baptized at an early age at Galilee Baptist Church, where he faithfullyattended Sunday School. Tootie was an active kid who played little league softball and community football at Douglas Community Center. On weekends he would spend his time between Schofield Skating Rink where he was an avid skater and St. Rita's where he enjoyed dancing and socializing with friends and family. Tootie attended IPS schools 51 and 37, where he graduated and went on to attend Arsenal Technical High School, until he enlisted in the United States Army in 1967. He served 2 tours in Vietnam and was Honorably Discharged in 1970. After returning from Vietnam, Tootie worked for Ford Motor Company as an assembly worker, then Sexton as a Cook, and then LAU Industrials as a Materials Handler until they closed their doors. Tootie was loved by all who knew him. He loved laughing, fishing, camping, BBQing, and hanging with his friends and family. Tootie loved music and would often be found singing and enjoying outdoor jazz and blues concerts in the park. On June 30, 1986, Tootie married the love of his life, Dona Carraway. To this union 2 children were born, Lamont and Christopher, as well as two daughters, Michelle, and MiaEasha. Tootie was preceded in death by his wife, Dona Young; grandparents, Glen and Bernice Young, Ollie and Asaline Edwards, parents Robert and Barbara Young; son, Christopher Carraway; brothers Barry, Robert and Gary Young; sisters, Nikki Wright (Fred) and Sheila Williams (David).Tootie departed this earthly life on Wednesday, January 25 2017. He leaves to cherish his memory, his three children: Lamont Carraway (Brigette), MiaEasha Young and Michelle Rose (Jamie); nine Grandchildren; two brothers, Jeffrey Young and David Young; two sisters, Darla Smith ( Auston) and Rhonda Young; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. The visitation is Saturday, February 4, 2017, 9am - 11am, with the service at 11am in Williams & Bluitt Funeral Home, Peoples Chapel.
