Samuel C Scott, 56, passed away September 4, 2015 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was initially diagnosed October 2012, but with the help of Dr. Joseph Spahr, Dr. Jamison Wilson, and the incredible staff of IU Health Cancer Center, he enjoyed life far longer than "statistics†would offer. Sam’s family would lie to offer a special thank you to the amazing healers that thought outside of the box and gave him more time to enjoy life, and love with his wife Brenda (Beckham) Scott.
Sam is survived by his parents Johnny and Anna Jean (Johnson) Scott, brother John (Vicki) Scott (Indianapolis), and sister Patti (James) Worman (Indianapolis). He is survived by three stepsons - Matthew (Amanda) Stewart, Stephyn (Megan) Martin, and Dylan (Dayna) Martin. Sam is also survived by 7 step grandchildren, one niece, and a nephew.
Sam retired from Indianapolis/Lawrence Fire Department after 30 years of service. He served his community as a firefighter and his country as a first responder during the horror of 9/11. He also worked as a volunteer Marion County Police officer. Sam lived his life in service of his community.
He expressed gratitude for the amazing nursing, scheduling, clerical, pharmacy, and volunteer staff that devote themselves to caring for patients terrified of what their future holds. Also thank you to the compassionate staff in the Oncology unit at IU Health Memorial Hospital in Muncie that cared for and comforted Sam and his family during his final days.
