

She attended schools in Giles county Tennessee and joined Browns Chapel AM.E. church at an early age.
Barbara was joined in holy matrimony to John W. Washington and to this union three beautiful children (John, Cynthia, and Ronnie) were born. Barbara and John's son Ronnie preceded her in death as an infant.
After the dissolution of her marriage she later moved to Indianapolis with her two children. Barbara found a new church home and became a member of Second Christian Church (now known as Light of the World) where she remained a member until her passing. She also attended Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
Barbara was employed for 30 yrs at Target. She was respected and well liked by many of her co-workers who also became her friends.
Barbara enjoyed life and nurtured it as she found peace in gardening and spending time working in her yard tending to the beautiful flowers that she planted. She loved the company of friends and family, hosting cookouts at her home and making sure that everyone had more than enough to eat. Barbara also cherished life as a 13 year survivor of breast and ovarian cancer. She participated annually in the Susan G. Komen Walk/Run for the Cure and attended the Komen Pink Ribbon Survivors Celebration.
Barbara departed this life suddenly Friday, September 11,2009. She was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Marie Evans; her brother, William Caldwell Butler, and her parents.
She leaves to Cherish her memories one son, John Washington (Tina); a daughter, Cynthia; one sister Connie Pugh (Traul); and two brothers, Frederick(Carrie B) and James Butler; two grand children, TaCory Clark (Matt) and John Washington; special friend Harold Russ; and a host of nieces, nephews, co-workers, and friends who loved her.
Barbara was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
