Patricia Ann Walworth Wood

Patricia Ann Walworth Wood, 82, Indianapolis, passed away Friday, July 13, 2018. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was born on February 14, 1936 in Charleston, WV to Chester and Fanny (Newman) Walworth. She graduated from Marietta College, where she pledged Sigma Kappa; subsequently, she earned her Master of Social Work from Indiana University. She met her husband of nearly 58 years, John, while in graduate school when both played clarinet in the Indianapolis Philharmonic Orchestra. A member of Fairview Presbyterian Church nearly 60 years, she volunteered in many capacities with and for her church family and was known for her welcoming disposition. She was also an author, poet, and songwriter. She authored three books of prose and poetry, and published articles in a variety of magazines and devotionals. Pat served as a chapter Co-Leader of the local Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association, and for many years loved to organize the neighborhood block party. Her greatest joy was her loving family. Patricia is survived by her husband of nearly 58 years, L. John Wood; daughter, Margaret Wood; son, Christopher Wood, M.D. (Rashella); brother, Charles Walworth; grandchildren, Katherine “Kate” Clemens (Evan), Rebekah Wood, Megan Wood, Joshua Wood, Josiah Wood, and Sarah Wood; great-granddaughter, Aurora Clemens; and extended family and friends. She and John opened their home to international students and immigrants, some of whom became family, including Ria Nieboer and Yous Khieu, with their families. Visitation will be Thursday, July 19 from 5-8 pm at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary, 2126 E 71st St. Her funeral service will be 11 am Friday, July 20 at Fairview Presbyterian Church, 4609 N. Capitol Ave., with visitation one hour prior. Burial at Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis.
