

Pearl was educated in Forest, Mississippi. He arrived in Indianapolis in his teen years. He lived in the home with his Aunt Lucille Brooks and family. Pearl joined the U.S. Army and served 4 years in the military during the time of bombing of Pearl Harbor. After being discharged from the Army, he began his employment with Hook's Drug Store. He was employed by the Jewish Community for 15 years. Later, Pearl was employed as a Maintenance Technician at Veteran's Hospital. He retired in October 1982.
Pearl accepted the Christ at the early age of 10 in Forest, Mississippi. He joined the fellowship of Messiah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Albert Wadsworth. Pearl served as a Deacon and sang in the male chorus for his church.
Pearl united in holy matrimony to Versie Lee Gaston, August 1, 1950. They shared life together and loved each other until death did part them.
Pearl was outgoing and so friendly. No one was a stranger to him. He enjoyed fishing and rabbit hunting.
Pearl Halbert departed this life Monday, October 3, 2011 at the age of 87 years. His father, mother and 2 brothers preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 61 years, Versie Lee; his sons, Manuel and Robert Halbert; one daughter, Joanne Halbert Smith; 2 brothers, John D Brown, Forest, Mississippi and Lindberg Guysse, Indianapolis; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
