Rev. Julian Douglas Jackson was born to Julian and Era Jackson in Hopskinsville, KY on Sept 2 1923. Both parents and two brothers preceded him in death. He was educated in the Hopskinville public school system. Doug (as we all knew him) at an early age, accepted Christ, joined church and later moved to Indianapolis, In. Doug enlisted in the Armed Forces and served as a Corporal. There he served until his discharge in 1946. Doug returned home and united in marriage with Gladys Wilson on September 21, 1946. They remained lifelong partners until his recent passing. Doug retired from International Harvester on December 31, 1981 with over 30 yrs of service. While residing here in Indpls, he joined Mt. Paran Baptist Church and was a dedicated member for 52 yrs. Doug loved visiting the sick and if he himself was ill he would be sure and call the sick and shut in, Doug also served as a deacon, A Sunday school teacher, participated in the brotherhood organization and shared his vocal talent in the Male Chorus. He and the late Deacon Percy Brown would get together and transport the handicapped in their own cars and later suggested that the church donate one of their buses to convert it into a handicapped vehicle.
Doug lived a long sickness of 13 surgeries and was always the best patient any hospital or clinic could have. Doug lived a full life without complaining one moment through it all. Doug was there for us all, through our good times and bad, always having good advice, a solution and a prayer to get us through any situation.
"Dougie" and Gladys never had children of their own, but they turned out to be Mom and Pop to everyone.
Doug is survived by a most lovely, lively and dedicated wife, Mrs. Gladys Jackson, a Goddaughter, Miss Charlene C. Duline, 1 Aunt, Amy Weaver, 11 nephews, 5 nieces, 12 great nephews and 4 great nieces, and a host of family and friends. Doug and Gladys also adopted the Walker and Emeli families into their huge hearts of love. He was so loved by all.
