Richard Frank Boyd

Stretch was born in Reed, Ky on April 10, 1916. Stretch was united in holy matrimony to Imogene "IKIE" Hawkins on Feb 12, 1944 and they enjoyed over 63 years of happiness together. Stretch loved to play golf and was an avid bowler. Stretch served in the United States Army from 1943-1946, serving in WWII. Upon discharge he became active in the Reserves until his retirement in April 1976 at the rank of Major. He also worked at and retired from Veterans Administration Civil Service..

Stretch joined New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in 1925, where he remained active until his health began to fail him.

Stretch was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Imogene; his parents, Frank O. Boyd and Sallie Sullivan, a sister, Alice Mae Boyd Russ and a brother- in-law, Pompey Hawkins.

Stretch leaves to cherish his memory his sister- in-law Margaret Hawkins; a nephew, Pompeii Hawkins and a great nephew, Pompey Hawkins and his wife Demica. Also devoted friends Betty Markey, Faye McDaniel, Rev. Michelle K.J. Roos, Joy Gaddie-Shepherd, and Regina Majors, who was also his caretaker. As well as a host of others who loved him dearly.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Monday Feb 1, 2010 at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, with visitation at 12 noon.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
