

Rick was born in Indianapolis, IN to the late Lula (Richhart) and Morris Gillespie.
Cherished by his wife, Brenda Gillespie, who was by his side for 60 years. Rick was a beloved father to his son, Jeff Gillespie and daughter Wendy Gillespie. Cherished Pappy to his granddaughters Mikala (Dalton) Perry and Kaci Gillespie and his great-grandsons; Brantley, Bryson, and Ky'Aire.
Preceding him in passing are his parents, Lula and Morris, and brother David.
Rick graduated from Decatur Central High School, and upon graduation, he joined the United States Air Force in which he served for 4 years.
Rick worked at US Airways for 35 years.
Upon his retirement from the Airlines, he found a new love, his lawnmower, which was known as his throne. Cutting grass was always at the top of the list of things to do.

Military Honors will be conducted at Crown Hill National Cemetery, 725 W. 42nd Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46208 on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. Honors will be rendered by the United States Air Force and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Military Honor Guard.
There will be a Celebration of Life immediately following the services at Crown Hill National Cemetery, it will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post 145, 4812 E. Main Street, Avon, IN. lieu of flowers you can make a donation to the American Legion of Avon Post 145. If sending flowers please have delivered to the American Legion Post in Avon on Wednesday after 11:00 a.m.
