Robert L. Dotson Sr.

Robert Louis Dotson Sr., son of the late Georgia Dean Douglas and Malachi Dotson, was born September 6, 1941, in Somerville, Tennessee. Somerville was also where he met his wife, the late Cora DeBerry Dotson. Robert was educated in the Fayette County School System and graduated from Fayette County High School. Robert went on to earn a commercial driver’s license and began work as a truck driver, a profession he loved, for over 50 years. Robert and Cora were united in holy matrimony on September 9, 1963, and to this union five children were born. Robert accepted Christ as his savior at an early age and later was ordained as a minister. He loved to fish, play cards, and spend time outside with friends. He formed a gospel singing group, The Sons of Faith, with many of his friends who shared his love of singing and gospel music. He met a lot of people through his time on the road and befriended anyone who could keep up with him. His gravelly voice, Tennessee twang and sense of humor endeared him to many. Robert Louis Dotson Sr. departed this life on Saturday, January 28, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Cora, his daughter Marcy R. Dotson, brothers George Douglas, Carrie Douglas and Arthur Dotson; sisters Lillian Taylor, Jeri Ann Henry, Jerlean Wade and Gwen Dotson, and granddaughter Kenya Moore. He leaves to cherish his memory: sons Robert L. Dotson Jr. (Yolanda), Ronald Dotson and Jonathan Dotson; daughter Relanda Dotson; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, Brother Johnny Douglas; and special friend and companion, Joyce Smith. A visitation for Robert will be held Monday, February 6, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM.
