In the morning of July 17, 2016, Ruby Yunez de Lopez passed away in Community North Hospital. Ruby was visited by a plethora of friends and family on her last day and was surrounded by loved ones through her transition. Ruby was 76 years old. Ruby was born in Ovejas in the State of Sucre, Colombia on June 16, 1940. She was one of ten siblings. Ruby is survived by her husband, Alfredo Lopez Sr., son, Alfredo Lopez-Yunez, grandsons, Juan and Sebastian Lopez, granddaughters Vivian Corvacho and Mariana Quintero, and an innumerable amount of cousins, nephews and nieces, and friends scattered throughout Colombia and the United States. Ruby grew up in Magangue, Colombia in the home of her parents, Salvador and Rebeca, both of whom were of Syrian and Lebanese heritage. Ruby graduated from Maria Auxiliadora High School, attended college in Barranquilla and years later completed post graduate studies in Theology at the INSTE Bible Institute of Iowa. She married Alfredo Lopez Morillo in 1966 and supported him in his career as a Colonel of the Marine Infantry of Colombia. She served as the Controller of the State of Sucre, Colombia in 1988 and was elected as the Mayor of Tolú in 1990, where she served for two years. In Indianapolis, she served as the Lead Pastor of La Familia Cristiana Foursquare Church and also as the Chaplain for Alivio Medical Center. Ruby was a woman who lived her life following the commandments of Jesus Christ: love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. And love thy neighbour as thyself. Per the former, her loyalty to the Lord and Savior was absolutely unmatched. She immersed herself in the bible devotedly to better understand her Redeemer. Through her spiritual journey, she felt compelled not only to learn and love God, but to share and preach the gospel –to spread the love she knew and adored. As for the latter, her commitment to spreading happiness to family, friends and even strangers was a natural characteristic that was at her core. She put her own comfort second to that of everyone else; her selflessness should be admired and personally sought. Ruby graced every room she entered with her dazzling smile and her gentle demeanor. Her presence elevated the spirits of all the people she encountered. Her forgiving approach to every situation diffused any feelings of self-doubt. However, she was not passive. She was outspoken about her convictions and morals; she rarely raised her voice, but it undoubtedly carried weight. She united the family through her peace and compassion. She always put things in perspective of the eternal. If anyone was ever prepared for death it was Ruby Yunez de Lopez. She will continue to take care of the family from above.
