

Sam was born in Clymer Pennsylvania to Theodore and Mary Cotton on December 9, 1944. He met and married Rebecca Cotton on January 11, 1969, in Covina California.
Samuel served in Vietnam War as a military police officer from 1964-1967. He then moved from Niagara Falls New York to Baldwin Park California with his cousin Josephine. Sam began working for Mattel Toy Company as a security guard where he met, he wife Rebecca. The two welcomed a son, Samuel J Cotton II and Juli Ann Cotton. They traveled the United States between Indiana and New York in the early years and took many trips to Las Vegas. Sam loved to play cards and go to casinos. He also enjoyed watching Storage Wars and Pawn Stars.
His favorite song was, The Gambler by Kenny Rogers and he also loved Frank Sinatra. Sam worked as a forklift driver and warehouse foreman for many years in Southern California. He liked to collect antiques and coins. He loved gift giving and sending $2.00 bills to all the kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.
Sam is preceded in death by his loving wife Rebecca Cotton and parents Joseph and Mary Catanese.
Sam is survived by his son and daughter in law Samuel Cotton II and Amy, his daughter Juli Byrum and husband Rob, her grandchildren Andrea and Jon O’Brien, Samuel Cotton II, Weslie and Jordan Caton, Lauren and Rob Alaniz, Jordan Byrum, Brandon and Adessa Thomas, Taylor and Scott Thomas, and Matt Byrum. Brothers Jerry Thomas and David and his wife, Charlotte Thomas and 17 great grandchildren Sophia, Rosie, Maggie, Makenna, Cash, Orion, Vincent, Cecelia, Alex, Octavia, Luna, Amelia, Klover, Nova Skylynn, Noella and Ryker.
A memorial service for Samuel will be held Monday, March 11, 2024, at 12:30 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208.
Military services will be held with burial of Sam and Rebecca together at Crown Hill National Cemetery directly following the services at Crown Hill National Cemetery, 725 W. 42nd Street Indianapolis, Indiana 46208.
