Van Edward Goodin, 78, of Bloomington, IN, passed away on July 2, 2025, at IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis. Born in Muncie, IN, on February 22, 1947, Van was a beloved father, grandfather, and friend. He received his bachelor’s degree from DePauw University in Greencastle, IN, and went on to earn his master’s degree in molecular genetics at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, AR.
Van met his wife, Lydia, while employed by the Navy in Corpus Christi, TX. Following the births of their two children, Kristin and Daniel, Van and Lydia moved their family to Indiana. Van dedicated his life to his family and his Christian faith, humbly donating his time and resources to promote the declaration of the Gospel and to support the ministries of his local Seventh-day Adventist church.
He was a deep admirer of nature and enjoyed spending time outdoors. This love was passed on to his children and grandchildren, leading to many priceless memories hiking and exploring the woods together. He possessed a clear, rational mind and a wry sense of humor that brought joy and laughter into the home.
Van was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Walker and Cora Goodin, and his brother, Douglas Goodin. He is survived by his wife, Lydia; his children, Kristin (Nathan) Eaton and Daniel (Maresa) Goodin; and his grandchildren, Joshua, Caleb, Lucas, and Leia.
A private interment service will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis. However, all family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life ceremony in honor of Van, which will be organized at a later date.
