Violet (Bobbie) Mathis was a strong, independent woman in a time when that was not the norm. She had the most incredible work ethic and was always working hard. She retired from Western Electric after 30 years, then worked over 10 more years at Celadon Trucking!
She enjoyed cultivating her flower gardens and mowing her lawn. Her love of music and the piano was second only to her love of bingo. She never liked to cook, but always had the coffee pot on.
She was mother to Larry, but a second mother to so many. Her love for family was bottomless.
She was and continues to be an inspiration.
She is survived by Grandchildren : Jason Southgate (Carissa) of New Palestine, Annie Southgate of Greenfield
Great Grandchildren: Cody Southgate of Lafayette, Hunter Dalton of New Palestine, Dakota Southgate of New Palestine
Daughter in law: Joyce Southgate of New Palestine
Brother: James Clayton (Nadene), Sisters: Sandra Sue Stewart, Bonnie Mackey. Nephew: Brent Clayton (Andrea)
And many other beloved family and friends.
She was preceded in death by Grandson: Brian Southgate of Greenfield. Son: Larry Southgate of Greenfield and numerous other family members.
