Major Walter A. Kines, U.S. Air Force, Retired 90, of Indianapolis passed away on January 22, 2011, with his family at his side. He was born on August 4, 1920 in Akron, Ohio, the son of Clarence and Maud (Hovatter) Kines. Walter served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII as a fighter pilot during the invasion of Normandy. After serving his country for 20 years he retired and then worked for the Federal Aviation Administration for 11 years. He was a former resident of Greentree and Berkshire assisted living communities in Indianapolis. Walter was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years Ruth E. Tice Kines. He is survived by his daughter, Margaret E. Kines; son, Joseph Kines; grandchildren, Beth Wurcel-Kenney, Chelle Ebert, Kaitlyn Jones, Kelly Jo Matuszewski, Jeff Kines and great granddaughter, Carina Matuszewski.
