

Willie "Pete" Evans Sloss, age 91, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023. Pete was born November 17, 1931 in Elkton, Tennessee to the late Collins and Lucille (Bledsoe) Sloss. Pete joined the U.S. Army in 1952 and he served his country for 3 years. During his time in the Army, Pete was a chef. After his time in the military, he worked for Ralph Roofing Company for 12 years. Then he started his own business painting houses and installing windows and roofing, while also working at Indiana University for 26 years.
Pete played baseball for the Memphis Redsocks and the Indianapolis Allstars. He was a pitcher and shortstop. Pete was a member of New Baptist Church in Indianapolis.
Pete is survived by his loving, caring and devoted daughter, Barbara Sloss; son, Sterling Sloss; step-son, Donald Moore; daughter, Renee McEwen; a host of grandchildren, including Brandon Moore, Byron Beason and Marlissa McEwen; and very supportive and caring caregivers, David Gilmore and Gale "Skip" Woods.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Collins and Lucille Sloss; wife, Janet Sloss; and siblings, Genoa Woods, Odell Woodard and Thomas Sloss.
A visitation for Pete will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at New Baptist Church, 1211 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street, Indianapolis, IN 46202. A funeral service will immediately follow at 6:00 PM.
Pete will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery at a later date.
